Fable of the Times
We’ve got a foot on the pedal and one in our mouth
Talking like our hands are dry when we’ve been swimming
Neck deep, soaking up the stain of the times
Reveling in sanctimony, blinded
By the beam in our own eye
Either that, or we’re staring at it right in the face
And we’re choosing not to see it
That we have been conditioned to the comfort of the lie
Step one: snap out of the fantasy
Reevaluate, reality might be a forgery
Made for fear that someday we may
Face the consequences
Either that, or we’re fine living the rest of our lives
With our backs to the way forward
We’ve become dependent on the poison of the lie
It’s obvious everything isn’t in its right place
Do we really need a better reason to change?
We’ve still got a foot on the pedal and one in our mouth
How many lies does it take to reach the center of a saint?
Desperate to hear you’re doing it right
We’ll believe it just because we say it’s so
And if we say it loud enough, it can’t be wrong
And with every step we drive the nail deeper in our sole
What an awful game, we play it every time we say, “I know the only way”
So bow to me, and we can all start to look the same
So bow to me, and we can all start to look the same
Oh, we have grown addicted to the power of the lie
There’s a beam in our own eye
Either that, or we’re staring at it right in the face
And we’re choosing not to see it
We’ve been made a fool by the fable of the times
(The comfort of the lie)
(The poison of the lie)
(The power of the lie)
We’ve been made a fool by the fable of the times
